It’s that time of the year again! The 11th annual BET Awards in Hollywood, California, Kodak Theater to be exact. I know every year you say I’m not watching the awards this year, but somehow you end up in front of the television on a Sunday at 8pm eastern, you may have even watched the pre-show. Everyone knows that BET does not always offer quality in their original programming, however their awards show is normally always entertaining. Though there have been some misses, there has also been some hits! Hits that are still fresh in your mind as if you watched it yesterday. With that being said it’s time to reminisce about your “favorite” awards show. Here are the top moments of the BET awards ever!
Destiny Child Cater 2 U “dance”
Were you expecting a lap dance? Destiny’s Child innovated the lap dance on stage craze to their sultry hit “Cater 2 U ” dance. This was definitely a moment to remember Michelle and Magic, Nelly and Kelly, and Beyonce’ and Terrence Howard. Was the best part Beyonce’s undeniable swag or Terrence Howards expression? Poor Michelle was definitely struggling with the choreography and chemistry, however this performance was a hit!
Jamie Foxx – 2009 Host
Jamie Foxx did an outstanding job hosting the 2009 award show. The show was dedicated to the memory of Michael Jackson the iconic King of Pop, just days before he passed away. BET had two days to totally rearrange the show and they did a marvelous job! One of the best to date. The show opened with New Edition doing a rendition of the Jackson 5, Foxx kept the spirits high coming on stage with Michael’s signature look, red leather jacket, black shoes, white socks, oh and the Jerry curl! After tons of jokes Jamie attempted to moonwalk – Hee-Larry-Us!
2004 Hip – Hop Old School Tribute
In 2004 BET had a treat for their award show viewers with a “25 years on wax tribute to Hip – Hop”. By far one of the best single moments of the awards by far! Narrated by Mekhi Phifer the line up included the Sugar Hill Gang, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick, Public Enemy, MC Lyte and more! Everyone in the theater was jamming remembering the inception of Hip-Hop and their adolescent years. A performance to remember!
The O’jays Lifetime Achievement Acceptance Speech
Some may wander should the O’Jays acceptance speech really be in this category? Yes! This was in 2009 during the tribute to Michael Jackson, Eddie Levert Sr. reflected on meeting Michael as a child and the advice he would give him and how he prayed for his soul. Additionally, Eddie continued to ramble and joke with the audience until he started using profanity! One of the most awkward/funny moments ever! Eddie’s vernacular is like none other.
Kevin Hart and The Real Househusbands of Hollywood
Another classic moment was in 2011 when host Kevin Hart introduced “The Real Househusbands of Hollywood” featuring Nelly, Nick Cannon, Bobby Brown, and Jermaine Dupri. It was an instant hit! Leaving fans wanting more. Good job Chocolate drop!
Chris Brown Tribute To The King
Chris Brown’s tribute to MJ is easily the top moment of the BET Awards. He literally was MJ reincarnated, he embodied Michael in every way possible. This performance was said to be CB’s redemption performance, although his attitude hasn’t changed much there is no doubts about CB’s undeniable talent.
There you have it folks! This list is totally objective and debatable, tell us what you think! Remember the 2012 awards air July 1, on BET 8pm eastern hosted by Samuel L. Jackson.
