(CBS Radio) — Like many other rappers, Gucci Mane is no stranger to run-ins with the law. The rapper, who began rapping at age 14, was arrested late Tuesday night in Atlanta, Georgia.

Gucci Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, is currently being held at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, and is being charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.

The alleged assault took place on March 16, 2013, at the Harlem Nights Ultra Lounge. While at the club, Davis is accused of attacking a United States Soldier.

James Lettley of Fort Hood, Texas, was at the club that night celebrating his birthday. The trouble started after Lettley asked one of Davis’s security guards if he could take a picture with the rapper. Reportedly, that’s when Davis hit the soldier over the head with a champagne bottle.

Lettley suffered a severe gash to the head, and had to be taken to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment. The laceration required 10 stitches.

After the assault, police in Georgia issued a warrant for the 32-year-old rapper’s arrest. Davis turned himself in without incident, just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
